Unable to open Word doc directly from In

Using Windows 2000 and Word 2000 with IE 6.0 SP1.

I am not able to open Word document directly from web site, however, I can download it (save) and open the doc file using Word later. After trying to open the doc file by IE, I could not shutdownWindows. I need to go to Task Manager to kill the Wordexe process before shuting it down.

Appreciate any suggestion of resolving it.
