Unable to use MS Word as edit MS Outlook

I have loaded Active Synch on my desktop computer to synch with my HP PocketPC. the load includes an install of MS Outlook upgrade (2000). I already had MS Outlook on my desktop PC and was working fine with MS Word as my e-mail editor. However, since I have loaded the synching software my option to use MS Word as the editor has been ghosted. Does anyone have any idea why I can no longer use that editor? I’ve ask all the technical people I could get my hands on and no one knows. The destopis running Windows 2000 Professional w/ MS Office XP.
