Updating charts in Word 2002 Mail merge.

I have a mail merge document with a table that links to an Excel 2002 database. I want to create a chart from this table in the word document. I highlight the table data and insert a graph chart. When i run the merge the chart does not update from the linked table fields.
Please help…
