Updating Excel links in Word 97

Hello dear colleagues,

I linked a MS Excel file into a MS Word 97 document. The link to the file is working fine.
But whenever I want to update the linked file (with F9), the format of the file and the whole page setup changes. (It changes back from landscape to portrait) etc…
I did some changes on the Excel file within the word file, so that it fits well. Can some one tell me, how I can change the format of the linked file so that it fits the size and doesnt change the format, when I update it?
