Who has query- macro skills in MsAccess

I need to import a spreadsheet from excel into access. But the spreadsheets come in text and some of the fields need to correspond to numbers put into other tables. I didnt write the database, i just have to now work in it. Is there an easy way i can write a query or macro to reference the spreadsheet or a table and convert multiple fields to corresponding numbers already set in other tables?

example: spreadsheet will have “entered by” and “form” column. Rows will have names like “Joane”, Jeny”, “Debra”, and forms like “spreadsheet”, “Fax”, email”. Debra =1, joane=2, …etc, spreadsheet =10, fax=12…etc all listed in other tables.
