win 95 my documents folder missing

windows 95.
The Mw documents folder has disapeared.
In windows explorer it is not visible or on the desktop.
When files are saved to it the location given is of a temp folder.
Search for individual files that have been saved to the folder are not found
The system has been scanned with Norton AV 2001 and shows no virus
