Win2K & Office 97 – Read Only files

There is a patch available for Win XP and Office 97, which resolves this problem of files automatically being read only – unfortunately can’t seem to find one for Win 2000 and Office 97. The files can be copied onto HDD then back onto the network and they are ok but as soon as anything is edited – they are read only again – help!! cant get them off the network!!!
