windows and exchange 2k3 +novell network

I have a taks at hand that involves the installation of Windows 2003 and exchange server 2003 in the same box. I know that installing exchange in a dc is not the correct way to go but I need to get the exchange installed and migrate groupwise users and emails to exchange.
Has anyone had the experience and is there a best practice for the deployment and migration???
Need any help available.
