Windows Taskbar Autohide

We have a 98 pc with Office loaded (tried both 2k and xp version). The user likes to use Autohide on the Taskbar but often finds that with Excel open he can’t get the Taskbar to re-appear without minimizing Excel. I’ve seen other forum users with this problem but no answers. Anyone? Thanks.
