Word 2000 flashes then crashes

I have two users that when they open a Word document the document opens for about a second then Word shuts down. They can start Word ok, but as soon as they try to open any file it shuts down the application. We’re running Office 2000 Standard SR-1 on new (last April) Compaqs. The OS is Windows 2000 Professional running on a W2K network. Any help would be appreciated!!
