Word 2000 Macro In Protected Form

I have created a form in Microsoft Word 2000 and have it protected. I have created a macro to do a spellcheck and added a macro button to run the macro. The macro unprotects the form, runs the spell check, then re-protects the form. When I click on the macro button when the form is unprotected, the macro works fine. When I click on the macro button when the form is potected, the spellcheck does not go through and curso jumps to the first field in the form.
Any thoughts?
