Word 97 and extra text being added

I found an answer months ago on MS site on how to fix this. But cannot find it now. On a 95 computer with office97 both service packs. Word adds lines like normal.dot, paragraph and others before and after the paragraphs typed in. I deleted the normal.dot reinstalled word and did a general reinstall. I had the same problem 5 or 6 months ago on another users computer. All virus dat files are up to date.
