Word 97 runtime error

“Run-time error ‘1200’ Word cannot save this file because it is already open elsewhere (c:\program files\….\normal.dot) End debug”
I tried to delete the normal.dot template but was unsuccessful since it said “Access denied”
I tried removing and reinstalling Word97 but the problem still persists.
