Word closes automatically

I use word 97 on NT4 Server. when I open a word document the document will close on its own roughly 5-10 seconds after opening. What could be the cause of this. Also when I open an Access 97 application and click a button to view a report the application closes on its own. However all others like powerpoint and excel are running ok.
