I was working on a word document which I had originally saved to a network drive, which is the default save location for all my files so they get backed up. I was working on it for about 1.5 hours with autosave on for every 10 mins when it corrupted. When the corrupted file saved itself it was saved to the C:\temp directory and not the Network drive.
In the c:\temp folder there were 2 recovery.txt files both of which had fragments of the word doc text and a ~.tmp file which had gibberish in it and the file I was working on which when I tried to open it gave me the message ‘the file cannot be opened due to an internal process error’. When i opened the file on the network drive it was in the same state as it had been before I worked on it.
Does anybody know why the file would save to the c:temp directory if there is not a setting pointing to that location in word. Thanks
