Word Templates

I have this really frustrating problem and i would be really thankful if anyone could help me out as i have searched and asked many ppl about this and have not been able to solve it. I have a word template and when I try to merge fields to the template i created it merges correctly. However On the firstpage I have the bare template. On the second page i have the page that i want which is the merged fields and my template text. Why is the first page appearing? I have to manually remove the firstpage. I would really really appreciate some help here.
