Word2k File New VERY slow on NT

Word 2000 on NT4, workgroup templates were on a NetWare server (SPPL2). Old server gone, templates now on new NetWare server (SU2). Takes about a minute from clicking File New to when the list of templates appears. On one machine it’s quicker if youtry again within (say) 10 minutes.
Have tried Novell TIDs 2929988,10050531,10024669, 10015571,2936379,10026063 and Microsoft KB articles 160177,171386,194827. Zero occurences of SPPL2 in the registry. Only protocol is TCP/IP. Client order is correct. etc. etc. etc. Must keep Windows client.
