1 Laptop profile and domain user account

Laptop users running w2k pro/xp use their machine at work and at home.
1. They want to be able to have the same profile.
2. They want to use the same user account at home and at work.
Is there a way to set 2000 up so they can use the domain user account and profile at home without logging into a separate local machine account.

I previous computer guy set it up so they can log onto their local machine using the domains user id, password and profile. I don’t think he set up a VPN on the users home network.
