100% CPU Usage sharing a printer?

I have an OkiData C5100 color laser attached via U.S.B. to a PC running Win 2K. That computer is shared so the PC next to it can also access the printer, that PC running Win XP Pro. On the pc running XP, after installing the printer the CPU Usage will jump to 95-100% utilization, with over 90% taken up by spoolsv.exe. This does not happen immediately after printing a document. I can print as many times as I want and watch it and it does not happen, but the user will call me 5 hours later and say that her system is very slow. Any assistance is appreciated.
