2003 server gpo help

Im a student trying to lern the the gpo features in 2003. I set up a ou and under that ou is a user, then i set up a user gpo for that ou to test how the gpo feature works. I cant get it to work. I have one computer that is my domain and a notbook used for testing. Both computers see each other on the lan. The dns is working and the server dhcp is dishing out ips. I have no clue….
