2k Pro hangs after login…. HELP !!

when i boot the compter i get the login screen
i type in the user name and password and then it just hangs.
ive tried to boot to safe mode same thing, i tried safe mood w/ networking same thing, tried last known good config same thing.
as soon as you type in a user name and pasword whether its on the local computer or network domain, admin or user it just hangs.
tried renaming the autoexec.bat to autoexec.old I downloaded the bootdisks from the internet ran the automatic recovery it wentthrough to 100% and the same thing is still happening.
I also tried holding down the shift key after logging in to stop the apps from starting and nothing it still hangs.
any body have any other ideas
