A miserably frozes Bios

I am trying to install Ubuntu onto a laptop without a cd-rom or floppy drive. But, when we try to access my bios to boot the flash drive it freezes. We cant move anything, none of the up/down arrows work in order to access the bios. What do I do? I can’t find anything in any forums about this happening.
