A7N8X-E SATA boot problem

by phatmonkee_masta . Updated 20 years, 11 months ago

Not long ago, I accidentally destroyed my old system hard drive, 60gb maxtor. For the last couple weeks, I have been using an old 2.98gb 5200rpm drive as a system drive, to avoid formatting my 250gb WD Caviar and losing all of my data. I have just today purchased a brand new WD SATA Raptor 34.6gb 10,000rpm drive to replace my existing drive. I used Norton Ghost to duplicate my existing system drive onto my new SATA drive. Windows has continued to boot correctly off of the existing system drive, recognising the SATA drive properly, but when I disconnect my current IDE system drive, Windows will not boot off of the SATA drive, I recieve a message in the BIOS that reads “Disk read error, press ctrl+alt+del to restart”. Is this an issue with booting from a SATA drive not being supported by the motherboard, or is there something I have missed along the way that would enable me to boot from the SATA drive (with an exact copy of the old IDE drive contents on it).

hardware specs:
AMD Athlon 2500+

WDC WD2500JB-98GVA0 (data)
WDC WD36 0GD-00FLA2 SCSI Disc Device (new HD)
