About the SysTray in widnows 2000?

I had a software which is working in background as a service but it’s icon is shown in the System tray of windows 2000 with all other icons like msn messenger time etc.Friends please help me how is it possible that this icon not shown in system trayhowever background application is still in working position.Please help me.
