“Access Denied” Message

My old laptop MB failed. Purchased new laptop. I’m trying to retrieve files from old hard drive but receive “Access Denied”. I named the new laptop the same as the old. I have tried to “take possesion” of the drive & files but can’t. Is there software available to unlock the hard drive?
