Access/Excel query

I am trying to run a Query on Access or create formula in Excel which will calculate Length of Time for Response:

Deadline: 01/04/02
Response: 05/04/02

Length of Time for response: 5 days

What criteria will I need to set in Access or if I analyze it with Excel – what formula would I use to calulate this? The format of the dates are set as above.
