“Access is Denied”

by rmessier . Updated 18 years, 9 months ago

I am trying to copy files from a laptop hard drive on an external USB drive to my computer. But on almost every folder under Documents and Settings (under my name) I cannot open or copy any files because it says that “Access is Denied”. “The shared resource was not created at this time”

I installed a larger hard drive in my laptop and have my old hard drive in a HD Caddy using a USB 2.0 port for access. I have done this with other drives in the past and don’t know why this would be that much different.

All I’m trying to do is copy MY Favorites and My Documents over to the new drive. The hard drive worked fine before I took it out, so I know there is nothing wrong with it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh my laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-S270P. Old HD was 60GB; new one is a 160GB. Running XP Pro SP2

Thanks in advance for your help.
