Accessing files on w2k shares

I have a small network consisting of a win2k(pro) machine and a WinME machine. On the WinME machine I am able to browse files on the w2k machine but cannot access them. WinME tells me that it ‘cannot access the specified device….you may not havethe appropriate permissions’.
If I set the shares to full control I have no problems, but I only want the winME machine to have ‘read’ permission. It used to work so it is obviously a setting that has been changed recently.
