Acrobat reader:How to stop view resizing

When reading Acrobat (PDF) files in the reader (Ver 4.04) is there any way to force the documents to open in the size/zoom I have selected instead of the size the author has selected (often Fit Visible). This is because that size is unreadable on my screen (at least for the documents in question, which are the only PDF’s I normally view).
