Active Directory

I setup a Windows 2000 Server with 5 nodes. I want to use Active Directory for security reasons rather than run in a Workgroup setting. However, AD asks for a DNS name when setting up. How do I properly setup AD for use on the network? Of the books I have read, none are clearcut. With NT I didn’t have security issues and all users had to login properly to access the network. Please HELP!
