Active Directory & Security Identifiers

Hello.

I have a question regarding AD and SID’s on Win2k servers. Is it true that each Active Directory is assigned a unique SID? If so, if I build another server in a remote location that I want to eventually integrate into the AD via VPN, does this server need to “talk” to one of the existing AD servers in order to have the correct SID for the AD, or can I just give it the same domain name and hope that it integrates when the VPN comes on line? If this is not possible due to the SID, what ramifications does this have on my workstations? For instance, in one of our remote houses we built the server separate from the central domain controllers, and all of the subsequent 2k Pro machines were also built separately. If I rebuild the remotedomain controller in conjunction with the servers at central office, will the workstations also need to be rebuilt in order to communicate with the new SID on the AD server?

I know this is confusing, so please forgive me, but I’m faced with a possible bad situation here.
