Adding a second hard drive to a Toshiba 6100

I plan to add a second hard-drive to my Satellite Pro 6100 via the slim-select bay.
Can anyone fill me in on what is necessary as to formatting the new drive etc?? I plan to use the second drive to mirror the C:/ drive in case the C:/ drive goes south…
