adding another server (same name)

Here’s the situation:
I have an intranet server called “CARSNET”. I recently received a brand new server and want to add it to the domain and keep the “CARSNET” server name. When I try to take the old server offline and add the new server it’s won’t connect, (I didn’t create a new account for it since an account for it exist) Do the accounts take MAC address etc. If not why can’t I simply add it to the domain. Could I delete the account and recreate it with the same name or is this a no no similar to NT domain user accounts.
