I am Installing a Benq 54x32x54 CD-R/RW on a black Compaq Desktop PC. WinXP PRO, Intel Celeron 1.7GHz 128MB DDR, 40.0GB HDD. The Power Supply is 200w to 240w. The PC has a CD-ROM, Floppy and HDD connected to the PSU. When I connect the burner to the PSU and IDE, either as a slave or a master, the PC won’t function. XP starts to load, then I get a BLUE screen the tells me that Windows has shut down due to an error. What I notice is that the normal WHINE that the CPU Fan and HDD make, slows down. I figure there isn’t enough power to run all drives.
In BIOS there is NO option for me to add the CD-R/RW Drive or administer any fuctions. I can’t find the CMOS Jumper either. I get the same result if I connect just the CD-R/RW and not the CD-ROM Drive. The PC will only start up if I have the normal Setup…CD-ROM, HDD and floppy.
What is the deal? Am I correct in suggesting a Power Supply of 350w to 450w?
When this occurs, the Keyboard also stops working…I am at a loss for words…
