adding old hdd to a new computer with the same XP loaded in both

I just had a new PC built, the old one fried the power unit. I had the builder install my XP and SP1 disks to the new hdd, clean.
Now I’m wondering if I can install my old hdd in the new PC to perhaps use as a second drive or just to view and transfer some files that were not backed up before the fire;-)
