Adding ports to a Westell Versalink 327W

by chris . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

I have a Westell Versalink 327W wireless 4-port DSL modem supplied by my phone company. I need to add a few ports for some NAS devices that I am purchasing. I’ve read information on how to set up a similar network by linking a non-wireless modem to a hub, then adding a wireless router to the hub. My question is, can I do the same in reverse using the hardware that I have now (i.e. linking the wireless modem to the hub while still retaining the wireless connectivity)? If so, can I still use the ports on the modem, or do I need a hub big enough to move all current and future devices to? Can I still use the modem’s firewall? Any specific settings that I need to change?

Also, I’m not sure of the technical differences between a hub and a switch so I’m using the term hub to mean either or. Please advise if one is better (or more appropriate in this scenario) than the other.
