adding users with user manager in w2k pr

When adding a user to a win2000 machine on a our domain the process of viewing current users takes a few hours it goes through names alphabetically. I don’t understand this because in winNT40 this action used to take seconds. Can someone tell me whyw2k takes so much time to populate this info and how can i get around this.
