Administrative Shares disappear

by rabbit_runner . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

1. NT and Novell mixed network, TCP/ip and IPX/spx
2. Have 3 NT 4.0 problem servers = Exchange, SQL, APPS
3. Another NT backup server running NT 4.0 and running Veritas Backup Exec 8.5. We are using The SQL, Exchange, Open File options
4. To backup across the network, there needs to be administrative share of C$, D$, E$, etc

Problem: What happens, about every 2 or 3 days, one or more of the above servers will loose the administrative hidden shares. The share on the particular server is gone. Totally gone. I have had to add it several times. Each time the share is created and the server recognizes it and lets me know that it is an administrative share and the permissions can not be altered. At that point the share is visable on thenetwork to the backup server. Then a couple of days later, when the backup run, I get a failure because it was not able to see those administrative shares. When I check, they are missing and I have to add them again. I can see no rhyme or reason to this behavior. Does anyone have any insights?

Thanks
