I really can’t put my finger to this….
I have a Intel celeron 667mhz, 98MBram with
the following os: Win2000, Winnt 4.0 (server &
workstation).
Now, I had created some user accounts and
was playing around with the local policy
settings, which were not restrictive enough so
I decided to have a look at the group policy
settings. In group policy, I then hide the icons
on my desktop, removed the run command,
disabled the author mode in the MMC, and
quite a number of other things (all this while I
was logged in as administrator)
I then rebooted and logged in with one of the
user accoutns I created. No probs – everything
seem was just as I expected.
Now, here it starts, when I then logged in as
administrator , I was confounded to see
exactly the same settings applied to my
desktop et al.
When I tried to access the MMC from the
command prompt ( since the run command
had been removed) I got the message
“current policies prevent the MMC from
opening in author mode. contact your
administrator for details”
And I happen to be the administrator!!!
Even when I click the windows + D keys, I get ”
The operation has been cancelled due to
restrictions in effect……”
I tried all I could….even opened the registry
from the command prompt. Needless to say, I
just kept staring at the
“REG_….0{f644….blah,blah” figures..
I don’t want to re-install
Can anyone please HELP? And while you are
at it, could you also direct me to a site where I
can get resources (preferably free) on the
workings/intricacies of the registry?
