Adobe Photoshop CS Filters

When i’m trying to use some filters on my work in Photoshop CS, i can only use some of them but not all of them, I was trying to make some crome text with Render/Lighting Effects but it stays gray which i can’t select it. I can only choose Blur, Artistic and some more. Anyone got a solution for that?
