After going multile rounds with a USR WinModem and Windows 2K and Windosw XP Pro (the modem in question is a USR 5699B Win Modem), I am now looking for reocommendations for solid performance modems that can handle bad phone lines better than their WinModem cousins.
These modems are going into remote locations that aren’t likely to see a broadband connection anytime within the next 10 years, so I really need to findf something that can handle poor quality phone lines on what is usually bad copper from the wall to the TelCo switch.
While USR is “known” by the management here (and thus is easier to push through a purchase request for them) I am more than willing to hear about other modem manufacturers.
What recent Analog modems have you found to be reliable and stable on Win 2K Pro and Win XP pro systems?
