Ancient printer question

I have a HP LJ IID that has a second tray. The client is having problems with the second tray feeding, so I replaced the pickup roller and separation pad on the second tray. Now it won’t feed at all. The gears are turning, but the shaft on which the roller rides doesn’t. HEEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!
