I also haven’t been able to get W2K installed on one machine. The error I get is that a dll file’s image doesn’t match what’s on the disk. It’s a different dll each time, but the same error checking error. I can partition and format the drive, and when Windows gets to the point of opening up the Windows screen and installing the system, it stops with that error. The Microsoft tech help suggests replacing the offending file, but at that point I can’t get to it. I’m using the original W2K pro disk on an AMD Athlon 750 with an ASUS A7 motherboard. I don’t find any of the components listed as being incompatible with W2K. Everything is pretty up-to-date, since the computer was upgraded this winter. The only older pieces of equipment are the hard drives, but they did fine with W2K on another system. The computer runs OK on Win98, but I’d really like to upgrade its OS.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem, or what causes it?
