AntiVirus Gone?

.I installed XP and found that I cannot use my MC Afee software anymore. Is there any way to reinstall the antivirus software? I upgraded from”ME” TO “XP”.McAfee says I have to go out and buy new software. Why should the customer have to pay to replace software, that was already on the system when it was purchased? Microsoft isn’t making enough money?
