Any method to “merge” domains

I just started a job at a company with two existing domains with a one-way trust setup. The company regrets setting up the two domains and would like to somehow join/merge the domains into one. I told them I don’t believe that there is any way to merge domains since SIDs are domain specific, etc. Is there any method to combine domains? Thanks.
