This all seemed to start when I tried to uninstall Norton System Works 2002 Pro from my Windows 98SE machine. I had to delete manually because the uninstall feature did not work. Also, while I had the program on the computer I ran Clean Sweep which cleaned up unnecessary files. When I tried to log on AOL for the first time after removing the Norton’s, AOL’s message said it “could not initialize my modem.” After trial and error I discovered if I removed the modem via the System Manager and rebooted allowing the PNP to reinstall my modem I was able to log on AOL with no trouble. However, as soon as I shut down the computer and tried to log on the next day I got the same error message. The only way I can log on is to repeat the “remove modem ” process. Can anyone suggest what is happening here? There does not appear to be any IRQ conflict. After reinstalling the modem Win98 always tells me,”This device is working properly.”
Thanks,
Rus
