AOL Hanging at Authentication

I have a client that is using a fresh load of WIN XP Corp. Ver., Office 2000 and AOL as her ISP. Everything works fine until she goes to AOL, when the modem connects then talks to the network it starts to authenticate the password it hangs. At this point the only option is to log the user off and then 2 out of 3 times it hangs on user log off, only after the AOL event. After many conversations with AOL techies, they say it is not AOL it is the pc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
