Apple Laserwriters

Whenenver I send print jobs to my laserwriter 800 this is the response: “a problem with the printer, ensure the printer is connected to the port you want to use and that it is on” I have a Quadra 610. The printer monitor on the screen shows that it is not accesible (X). How can I solve this problem?
