Armada E500 + WIN2K + Modems

Have anybody experienced problems with the abovementioned configuration. The brief description: as soon as the modem dials a number one of these Bill Gates boxes appears on the screen stating “opening port” and the computer hangs so bad that the only way to unlock the gadget is to remove it from Aux. power supply and then remove the battery. ? have called Compaq heldesk several times but all they say is that they have never heard of such a problem
