ASP or ASP.NET

I am just about to start learning ASP when MS releases ASP.NET (the next big thing). I would like to know what’s better to learn and what are the difference between them. I’ve heard that ASP.NET has quite a few advancements over ASP. Should I learn ASP before ASP.NET. What’s the deal, thank you? And can you suggest any good texts on the subject. Thank you for your time.
